Short Example of Spoof Text: Private Conversation

English Admin learning an amusing story. What we call an amusement in the story is an example of spoof text. When learning English through text based approach, students will study some text genres. One of them is spoof text.

What is spoof? The definition of spoof text was firstly given before this story sample. In short a spoof  text is a story which given an amusement for readers by ending the story with an unpredictable plot. What make the story funny is actually this element, the unpredictable ending. This is called twister.

Now we are going to see one example of a very short story. The story can be labeled as spoof because it contains the element of unpredictable story plot. How it is applied in a story. Here is what we want to give you

Private Conversation
Last week I went to the theatre. I had a very good seat. The play was very interesting.

I did not enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. They were talking very loudly.I got very angry. I could not hear the actors. I turned around. I looked at the man and the young woman angrily. They did not pay any attention.

In the end, I could not bear it. I turned around again. “I could not hear a word” I said angrily.“It’s none of your business” the young man said rudely. “This is a private conversation”

Generic Structure Analysis of Spoof text about Private Conversation
1. Orientation: introducing a writes as point of view “I” which is in a theatre last week.
2. Series of Events: some event happened relating to the participants
a. Event 1: the other theatregoers, young man and young woman, were talking noisily.
b. Event 2: the writer used physical language by turning around to the young man and young woman talk to not to make noisy.
c. Event 3: the write used verbal language by saying “I could not hear a word”.
4. Twister: the young man misunderstood the writer’s word and said; “It’s none of your business. It’s a private conversation”.
